I quit. I finally did it. I quit. I have been working for my last company, for over fifteen years. In many ways it is a fantastic company to work for. Great, people, great benefits, so-so pay. But the hours and stress were beyond tolerable, and I felt like no matter how many 50, 60, or 70 hour weeks I put in, I was always falling short and falling behind. Things got so bad, that I straight up quit, without even having another job lined up. I had just started looking, but my wife saw me working … [Read more...] about I Quit My Job and You Can Too

Featured Images Part Deux
Featured images and I have a history. As small a thing as they may be to use, I regularly found them being the reason why I had trouble actually publishing my posts. So much so in fact, that as part of my commitment to publish every day this year, I shunned the use of them until I could get rid of this block I had in picking an image. I don’t know if it is just my nature, or because I fancy myself as an amateur photographer, it became a point of pain and frustration for me. … [Read more...] about Featured Images Part Deux
Get A Blogging Gameplan
You can’t just blog willy-nilly. I mean you can, but boy are you making life harder for yourself. I am currently committed to do at least 1 post a day for all of 2015. And to be honest, I really don’t have an end date. I needed a goal so unless I have grown to hate blogging, I don’t suspect my last post to be on the last day of 2015 Whenever you have a few minutes free, you should brainstorm your post ideas. It doesn’t have to be super organized. In fact, I like the freedom of a brainstorm … [Read more...] about Get A Blogging Gameplan
Exercise Like You Publish
I am overweight. I don’t mean a little bit, I mean a lot. I haven’t always been this way. In fact, when I got married at the ripe old age of 18 to my highschool sweetheart, I was 5’11” and 145lbs soaking wet. I was working at the airport at the time in various jobs, all with a focus on slinging luggage and quickly bulked up to 175lbs. This bulk was complete with a nice set of biceps and 6-ish pack abs. And then, around the age of 21 I finally got my first office job in the software industry, … [Read more...] about Exercise Like You Publish
31 Days Of Publishing
Congratulations to me! I have reach a major milestone today, and I have to admit I am pretty chuffed about it. As of today, I have blogged every day for the entire month of January. I don’t think I have ever blogged for more than 3 or 4 day in a row in my life. To think when I started this journey, I had no intention of blogging every day. Even the morning of January 1st, it wasn’t even in my mind to blog every day all year-long, but something happened in that afternoon that just made me … [Read more...] about 31 Days Of Publishing
Make Publishing Easier Today
That title sounds an awful like a sales pitch doesn’t it? I mean, if you read it the way I did with a used car salesman’s voice echoing in your head. Or maybe it is more of a “Sold on T.V.” advertisement title. Either way, it makes it sound like I have found a way to make your ability to publish more often and with more consistency, easier. And in a way I have. Okay, maybe I haven’t personally found it, but I am going to be the one that broadcasts it. And if you call in the next twenty … [Read more...] about Make Publishing Easier Today
Go Back and Read Old Posts
With all my talk and bluster about a publishing imperfect posts, it is possible that some mistakes may have made it out the door and landed on your homepage. I would never want you to stop publishing by getting bogged down again with attempts at perfection. But at the same time, the whole thing is based on the idea that you will, over time and repetition, get to being a better writer with each post. How do we do that? … [Read more...] about Go Back and Read Old Posts

When Your Page Views Drop
As you know, many of us just finished the Desk PM, 10 days to a Better Blog challenge, class, thing. It really was a fantastic experience and I have gotten a lot out of it towards my commitment to write every day of 2015. During these 10 days, a community built up around the challenge itself and thus traffic to most of the participants blogs generally spiked. It was pretty cool, I have to admit, even though the general teaching was to not worry about your traffic numbers as much in the early … [Read more...] about When Your Page Views Drop
