This evening I realized I had spent almost the entire weekend at my house. On the surface this doesn’t sound like a horrible thing, but it is a productivity killer for me some times. I just get into this funk where I don’t do anything productive and I get grumpy. Like, get off my lawn type of grumpy. When I get like this I know I need to get out of the house, but for some reason it is so hard to actually do that. I have to get MUCH better at just getting the #@%#@$ out. … [Read more...] about Get Out to Get Productive

I Quit My Job and You Can Too
I quit. I finally did it. I quit. I have been working for my last company, for over fifteen years. In many ways it is a fantastic company to work for. Great, people, great benefits, so-so pay. But the hours and stress were beyond tolerable, and I felt like no matter how many 50, 60, or 70 hour weeks I put in, I was always falling short and falling behind. Things got so bad, that I straight up quit, without even having another job lined up. I had just started looking, but my wife saw me working … [Read more...] about I Quit My Job and You Can Too
Being Sick and Burnout
So my attempt to post daily has been totally shot to pieces with how busy I have been at work, and as of this weekend how sick I have been. I am still not feeling well at all, but compared to how I felt as recently as just this morning, I feel as though I could do cartwheels. While my family may disagree, I think I handle getting sick pretty well. I may get frustrated, but I don’t usually get real down in the dumps about it. This time however, I crashed hard. … [Read more...] about Being Sick and Burnout
Small Business Account Opened
Finally, my wife and I both had an opening in our schedules to meet down at our local credit union and get our small business account opened up for our little business venture. I am not sure if I have mentioned it in the past, but we have started a small web development company called Presstronic Studios, so I have an avenue to route any freelance work I do through. For now I am hoping to keep it to a side business, but in a handful of years as the kids are all off to college and my wife gets … [Read more...] about Small Business Account Opened
Lessons: Live In The Now
If you don’t already know, I am a big Atlanta Braves fan. We are entering into the 2015 season, and although the team executives don’t characterize it as such, we are in the process of rebuilding. What this means is we have gotten rid of some of our big, short contract players in favor of bringing in lots of new young talent so that in a couple of years we may be really competitive again. Along with the young guys, a clubhouse needs to have some veteran leadership to help the young guys … [Read more...] about Lessons: Live In The Now
Perfect Day to Feck Perfuction
And there it is. Between being wicked busy with work, and my notoriously absent-minded brain, I finally missed a post officially in a day. Yes, I have posted more than once a day a bit of the time, so technically, based on post count, I am still up on the year. But from now on, if you look for a post that was published on February 25th, 2015 here, you won't find one. My goal is to post every day this year, and so in that nit-picky sense, I guess I failed. But here I am still doing the post … [Read more...] about Perfect Day to Feck Perfuction
Featured Images Part Deux
Featured images and I have a history. As small a thing as they may be to use, I regularly found them being the reason why I had trouble actually publishing my posts. So much so in fact, that as part of my commitment to publish every day this year, I shunned the use of them until I could get rid of this block I had in picking an image. I don’t know if it is just my nature, or because I fancy myself as an amateur photographer, it became a point of pain and frustration for me. … [Read more...] about Featured Images Part Deux
Get A Blogging Gameplan
You can’t just blog willy-nilly. I mean you can, but boy are you making life harder for yourself. I am currently committed to do at least 1 post a day for all of 2015. And to be honest, I really don’t have an end date. I needed a goal so unless I have grown to hate blogging, I don’t suspect my last post to be on the last day of 2015 Whenever you have a few minutes free, you should brainstorm your post ideas. It doesn’t have to be super organized. In fact, I like the freedom of a brainstorm … [Read more...] about Get A Blogging Gameplan
Listen To Your Body
I don’t know about you, but when I get home from work, I am usually pretty exhausted. I am somewhat physically tired, but the exhaustion is more from a mental standpoint. Sometimes it is so bad, I don’t even want to have to think about what we are having for dinner. Most nights aren’t too bad. I can get by with about 30-60 minutes of letting my brain relax by just playing a couple of rounds of Call of Duty or Forza 5. After which, I am usually raring to go again and can start working on side … [Read more...] about Listen To Your Body
Lather, Rinse, Repeat
As is the norm, I am burning the candle at both ends. In fact, I have been doing this for most of my life. Sometimes I am up for it, and then inevitably after a while aflame, I start to burn-out. I am in the middle of a burn-out phase, which is never fun. These phases often can last just a few days, or they can last for weeks, and while I think I know how to avoid or minimize this burn-out, it is certainly something that is easier said, than done. It is also a bit poetic to me that with age I … [Read more...] about Lather, Rinse, Repeat
